Romania is going through a bit of a food renaissance, few people can cook better than their grandmas and there are only 2 ways to go: achieve perfection or experiment with old ingredients to bring back the past. Either way, Dracula is excited for the future!

Paninaro – Small place with a big heart

Note: Paninaro is temporarily closed for renovations (Last update: 11 March 2024)

This place understands the essence of Romanian cooking and wraps it up in a funky style. They change their menu quite often and you can get a well-executed traditional dish, a funky childhood dish (rice with milk and jam) or the fried and cheese your grandma used to make. It is always an adventure delivered by someone who loves food in a small place.

Soro Lume – Fine dining with a flair for the ingredients they use

Oh my god, I love this place! They are good at either, executing perfect traditional dishes or going full-blown experimental. If you are a foody and tried some Romanian foods, go here and see the real potential. A friend of mine tried the Romanian bulz, it looked nothing like a bulz but tasted like one.

The sarmale with mussels is totally out there in terms of what a Romanian expects and the one that blew my mind was a bed of apples, soft cheese, strong sheep cheese, caramel on top and thyme (most memorable dish I have ever had). Not everything will blow your mind but those that do will make your life so much better.

Noua Restaurant – a tasting menu experience

I tried the tasting menu they offered on the terrace, I was on a lower budget but was told that the full menu is a 3 hour experience. It is fresh, it is tasty, it explores Romanian cuisine and it’s the best overall experience without any disappointments in terms of flavor. Went with my former partner and it was fun getting a taste of everything and sharing.

draculasguietoromania is not very fancy so we will explore other places when our budget allows.
