Who is tipping material?

People generally tip in Romania their taxi drivers, waiters, and sometimes their hairdressers (barbers). It isn’t mandatory to tip, especially if you are not satisfied with the service.

What is the usual tip?

The normal tip is 10%, but you can decide according to the service how much you want to leave.

Restaurants & Bars – The tipping law

A law adopted by the Romanian Parliament (in effect since January 2023) regarding tip taxation gives the restaurant the obligation to provide you a section on the check, where you can indicate the tip, if any.

  • The level of tip can be between 0-15% of the consumption value
  • Payment by card is possible

Even though your tipping life in Romania sounds easier all of a sudden, not all restaurants may have the legal option added to their POS (especially if you are going somewhere with more of a local flavor)

Bolt, Uber or Taxi which one is better in Romania?

Also, not many places are open before 10a AM, so these suggestions might help with that
