Why you shouldn’t pick a regular cab

Even though you have just arrived in Bucharest after a long flight and the easiest option would be to pick the first available taxi, we believe it might not be the wisest choice.

It might surprise you afterwards to realize that you have spent a lot more on one than you would have with our suggested options below. Why? The answer is simple. TAXI DRIVERS KNOW THAT PRICES ABROAD ARE HIGHER. Once you open your mouth and they realize that you are not from around here, THEY WILL CHARGE YOU MORE.

Your alternatives?

PROS:

  • The prices that are charged are usually calculated based on requests, weather and distance – the app doesn’t have a ‘foreigner radar’
  • You can pay via card
  • You can review your driver
  • You get updates in real time on map

CONS:

  • A bit more expensive sometimes than Bolt

CONS

  • Not really a con, but for some reason it’s less popular than Uber, even though you get most of the time better discounts

      1. I was wondering if you could write about safe areas to stay in, for all kinds of budget, from where it is easy to explore the city with public transport and to also go for day trips with trains/buses.

      2. Those are some long articles I will need to write, they were in mind, we already have 30 article topics in waiting. But to help out for Bucharest. Cotroceni area is the most child friendly place, as it is an expensive residential area, with historical buildings, and airbnb there is going to be expensive but definitely safe, it is the only place in Bucharest where I have seen kids playing ball on the streets.

Kids areas I would avoid the old center, as there are too many people there to party. Tineretului area is super close to the center one metro stop, it is in a communist area but it’s safe, close and decently priced.

Day trips I reccomend going to Sinaia to see the Peles Castle, or Busteni to go to the top of the mountains (check top 10 things to do in Romania). Brasov is worth going there and staying overnight, in Brasov it is really safe for kids.

Palatul Mogosoaia (Mogosoaia Palace) is a cool historical site where you can go with public transport and they have stands where people can buy stuff and go on rides.

Largest mall in Romania is Afi Cotroceni.

Therme bath house kids can go on slides and stuff like that (it is really crowded on vacations and during the weekend)
