We shall begin with Viscri!

Transylvania, beyond its legendary outstanding vampires like myself, is home to picturesque villages, lush forests, and historic architecture that captivate travelers. The region’s slow development has preserved its traditional charm, offering visitors a chance to experience simpler times and authentic Romanian culture. The warm hospitality of the locals, combined with the region’s rich cultural heritage, ensures a memorable experience. Whether you’re drawn to nature escapes, cultural immersion, or historical sites like Bran Castle, Transylvania promises to leave a lasting impression on all who visit. So let’s discover some fascinating small towns in Transylvania starting with Viscri.

Viscri – Where kings come to visit

King Charles of the UK is considered one of the descendants of Vlad the Impaler, the person that gave birth to the Dracula myth. The connection to Romania has determined him to buy property in a small town in Romania called Viscri and has really helped bring tourists to this small, unknown Saxon village (sași in Romanian). With the effort made by the locals the past years in reviving traditions that almost disappeared makes this place truly special. It is also one of the UNEWSCO heritage sites of Villages with Fortified Churches in Transylvania.

What makes this place special?

It is hard to put your finger on one particular thing, but details within simplicity contribute to the unique atmosphere. Just have a simple look at doors.

Atmosphere

Rural Romania is hard to describe but have a look and you will get it.

Picturesque

Saxon architecture, old buildings and beautiful colours.

A source for creativity

The receipe for creativity is relaxed atmosphere, intellectual stimulation, and history. Or at least this is what I believe.

Community

The king made the house ,he bought, a place for the community to meet up in 2021. You can experience art galleries and different events at the King’s House, so the king might not be here, his contribution is greatly appreciated by the town.

Closer to the Old Ways

You hear people talking about how it was in the past… Here the past is still preserved and valued.

Local Products

These products can be food from small farms, little workshops and potery:

The local accommodations

There are some really beautiful accommodations to be found here, renovated and transformed into works of art by themselves.

And a feast for the stomach

I love food, and the food is everything that it is supposed to be.

And this is it
