From our personal experience, Romania is a safe place.
In 2023 The Institute of Economics and Peace established that Romania ranks 32 in the world for Societal Safety and Security Score.
Travel safe mentioned that the only medium risks you can encounter are: Muggings and Scams. More likely in big cities, but generally easy to avoid. Muggings are very rare, and overall crime has been on a downward trajectory in the country during the past 20 years.
Risk for terrorism, women travelers, natural disasters, pickpocketing, transport and taxis are on the low spectrum of risk.
