The holidays are here and maybe you experienced some snow so here are some of the things you might have missed in Romania or you enjoyed.
People dressed up as bears
Part of old new year celebration where you scare off evil spirits.
What should I visit?
Small towns with their own traditions
Bucharest Christmas Decorations
Big city with a big heart and an obsession with Christmas decorations.
Lucian Pruna – an artist with a very Romanian lense
I suggest following his work, one of my favorite artists alive at the moment.
Churches are the place to go
Not all churches have the best singers but there are some really impressive ones out there.
Romanian sense of humour
Romanians love chatting about everything and making fun of everything.
New Year’s Eve another dance
Less scary than the bear is the goat
What are these traditions all about?
Well, in anthropology it is called village theater, and the words said are magic that bring forth a better year and bring the community into your house.
And the costumes are diverse
And have it’s own symbology that can vary according to the region.
Traveling in Maramures is different from other regions
But has something early familiar
And when you see it in action it can be impressive
Or scary.
Where should I start?
Brasov is visiting Romania on easy mode… but going out might bring more tradition focused results.
So maybe learn some Romanian
Or at least some words to make some locals happy.
Eat some cozonac
A tasty sweet bread.
Listen to some more carols!
so many to choose from
