I’m going to quote my father: A meal is not complete without eating a soup. This list includes many traditional options but also some international options for the fun of a good hearty bowl of warmth. So if you need some good comfort food, here are some of the best locations that I recommend:

Hanu’ lui Manuc – Especially for the lunch menu – Old Town

I’m going to share a secret: Hanu’ lui Manuc, an iconic place in Olt Town, has a decently priced lunch menu that… is not promoted in their menu. So if you want decent food and decent prices between 11:00 and 17:00, it is on offer, you just need to ask for it!

Bodega La Mahala – A place with affordable prices in Old Town

This is where I usually eat traditional food in Old Town, secluded from the hustle and bustle, with decent food, decent prices. I suggest going for the smoked meat soup here, but they have a couple soups available during the day.

Vatra Restaurant – Close to Old Town

If you are looking for a good place to eat, Vatra is away from the hustle and bustle of the Old Town.

Caru’ cu Bere – Old Town

Last place that I recommend in Old Town is Caru cu Bere. The atmosphere is good, and so is the food. Prices are a bit high in my opinion, but you can also go for the lunch menu, where you should receive a soup.

Ivan Pescar – Traditional fish soup receipes

It is far away from Old Town, it is a bit of an adventure to get here if you are not using public transport, but this is my favorite fish place in Bucharest. Their non-fish food options are limited, but the fish is fresh, as they only make fish dishes. They don’t have all the fish, especially in the evening, but if you are looking for authentic recipes, this is the place to go.

Ciorbarie – The tastiest food franchise in Buhcarest

Where most people in Bucharest go for a warm soup. They only make soups, and you can find vegetarian, vegan, and meat options. There is always something that might interest you; just know it gets full, and not all restaurants have indoor seating. So go before the rush hour.

Petra – Obor Market

You know Dracula loves a bit of nostalgia, and this place has the vibe of an old cantina, but the good part is that the food is much better that what I used to enjoy as a youngster.

Papila

One of the hip places that loves food, they are famous for their weekend ramen, but they also have some soups that adapts to the time of the year. Hard to get their ramen, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get one of their tasty soups. Sometimes you get traditional soups, but a lot of the time you will get some special from borders far far away.

Bacania Veche – Comfort food

More of a summer location, their main focus is on seasonal ingredients, and their styles can vary. If you like Eastern European comfort food, this is the place to go to. Every day there is something new.

Bistro “La Taifas”

This is one of my favorite places to go for Romanian food.

Zexe – More of a fine dining type atmosphere

It is one of the fanciest Romanian-focused restaurants, and their tripe soup looks divine. I know it doesn’t sound the most appetizing, but they have other options too, which will most likely make your tummy happy.

Balls

Hip foodie place, focused more on comfort rather than extravagance.

Nishibo

Not what I usually think of when you say soup, but this is the trendiest ramen place in town.
