Many Romanians have lived in Italy and returned home, bringing with them a deep knowledge of Italian cuisine. If you’re looking for a great pizza, Bucharest is eager to impress. The top five pizzas are more traditional in style, but the bonus list also features some unique options.

Fun Fact: Romanians love pizza and sauce on the side, usually a tomato-based sauce, sometimes even the word that starts with “k” and ends in “etchup that Italians hate.

PizzaMania – Nr. 1

The dough is made the right way, closely resembling authentic Italian pizza. With multiple locations in town, what more could you ask for? They source their flour from Italy and let the dough rise with their own starter—Nonna would be proud! This gets high praise from restograf and a spot at our number 1 from Dracula!

Amore Rotondo Pizza – Nr. 1.2

It was hard to decide which one is better, but this is the place I end up going less… It could be because the pizzas are a bit more fancy and I just love simplicity. Perfect place to go out on a date if both love birds just want pizza. Crust is amazing, choices are excelent, they make their dough properly in a wood oven. What more can you ask? (did, I repeat the question from before? hell yes!)

Centrale – Numb3r

It is a bit more floppy, but not gonna lie, still very very tasty. They get their dough from PizzaMania, wood oven and magic happens. Event though, their location is small it is a magical place in it’s own way. We suggest eating there steanding up as part of the experience but you can also grab it to go. There is always a line here, so you know it’s good.

Tudi’s Pizza – #4

They would get a higher rating if it wasn’t so far away from the center. Done properly in an oven, the texture of the dough is good, and flavors hit the right spot.

Animaletto Pizza House – Five

The pizzas are good, but it feels that the flavors are not as bold as they should be, most people have complained that they lost some of their on-point flavor profiles, which for the price tag should be. Also a bit further away from the old town, close to Piata Victoriei (cool government building nearby and metrostop). They once had a prize for top 50 pizza places in Europe.

Bonus round:

When I drink type pizza – Latin Pizza

Not the most traditional in any way shape or form, but if it’s late at night and I had some drinks, this is my spot for a naughty pizza. There are multiple planes that do fast pizzas, like Trevi and big chains but Latin is my guilty pleasure.

Location: Old Town (not a lot of seats inside, best to go when it’s not cold)

Il Pizzaiolo – Won the most liked by Reddit community

Loved by users of Reddit but really far from Old Town and only delivers in that area. It is said to be amazing and the best pizza in town but a bit of a secret due to not being very accessible. I haven’t been there so can’t put it on my top 5 … Listen to the video bellow and you will understand why this might be the best pizza in Bucharest.

Check the pizza—recomended by Lookingforfood

Great reviews but in my opinion it is more of a gimick as it has the sauce in the middle and you can dip the pizza. Romanians love pizza and sauce on the side (tomato-based sauce sometimes even the “k” word), so it makes sense. I haven’t been there, the reviews are really good so you might not even have to listen to what I say.

Appolo 111 – Detroit style Pizza

Grab to go and eat in the Cismigiu Park nearby on a beautiful summer day. I usually get them on a discount with Bonapp and the thick crust is sometimes the comforting thing that I am looking for.

Paine si vin – Cultures have their own spin on the Pizza

It is an exploration of what pizza is, so dough and different ingredients and styles to make this dough taste good. The biggest issue is they don’t take reservations, and you can end up waiting quite a bit.

Pizzeria Viitorului – Gluten free pizza

I did research on gluten-free places and celiac-friendly places to eat in Bucharest, and this place pops up all the time. So for those of you that have issues with gluten. Dracula has your back! and neck… wink, wink.

Sebwich – Not a pizza not a Sandwhich

Not technically a pizza but, techically tasty! The pizzas are good, but I would go more for the pizza sandwhich as I do love sandwhiches.
