Praid may be a small, quiet destination, but it’s perfect for a day trip or a peaceful getaway. With enough activities to enjoy for a day or two, it’s an ideal spot to unwind, escape the stresses of everyday life, and recharge.
House of Exotic Butterflies
If you’re a butterfly lover, this is the perfect spot to visit. Though it’s not a large place, they have a cozy café where you can start your morning with a coffee or naturally fermented drinks and afterwards enjoy the sight of adorable butterflies.

Praid Salt Mine
Remember to wear a coat, as it can get chilly underground with temperatures around 15 degrees Celsius. Buses typically arrive every 30 minutes, or more frequently if there are many tourists. The best time to visit is during the hot summer months. In Romania, we believe that salt mines improve breathing, a practice known as halotherapy. Inside the salt mine, there are plenty of activities to enjoy: walking, meditation, local festivals, souvenir shopping, underground art exhibits, attending Church Mass, and various activities for kids, including climbing, a planetarium, and small playgrounds.

Swimming
Looking for a saltwater swimming pool? You’re in luck! While it can be a bit bothersome if the salty water gets in your eyes, the buoyancy makes floating effortless, and let’s not forget about the therapeutic benefits often associated with saltwater.

Hiking the Salt Canyon
If you like hiking and continue the theme of the city, salt. Exploring a salt canion is indeed something unique worth exploring.

Traditional Hungarian Food
Romania is home to a significant Hungarian minority, and in Praid, you’ll find Restaurant Izabella Étterem, which excels in preparing game dishes. Their deer soup and paprikás are definitely worth trying. As for drinks, they offer a wide variety of palinka (fruit brandy), including unique flavors like strawberry and unripe pear, which I had the chance to try for the first time.

Pro tip: Accommodation
Dracula had a really amazing time at this accommodation. Hygge Praid offered really polite service, access to a sauna, swimming pool and the best part is they had socata (fermented elderberry drink) in the fridge on a very hot summer day. After a long hike on Via Transilvanica this was the best way to relax.
