What is Biscuit Salami?

No, it’s not a meat product. It is actually a dessert really popular in Southern Europe and Eastern Europe.

Ingredients

The ingredients are dried biscuits, milk, butter, raisins, sugar, coconut, cocoa, and rum essence (I prefer it without raisins…).

Where does it come from?

According to Wikipedia this dessert was created in either Portugal or Italy where they use port wine or rum. But this dessert is much more popular than just these 2 countries and have a variety of different names. In Romania it was popular because during communism you could find the ingredients and it wasn’t difficult to make, also the Romanian version uses artificial rum flavoring (rum without any of the fun).

Again thanks to Wikipedia I found out that it has a variety of names too: In Cyprus it is called the duchess cake, in Poland it can be called a chocolate block, In Turkey a mosaic pasta. And guess what we can even move continents and in Jordan it is called a lazy cake, in Brazil Italian straw and in Uruguay chocolate Sausage.

Is it easy to find in Romania?

Most supermarkets will have them (Mega Image always has a small easy to eat size), but my pro tip is that you try and find it at artisanal markets as they make amazing ones!
