You landed in Brasov and you have one day to visit – What are you going to visit?

Spending one day in a city, even as small as Brasov, can feel a bit overwhelming. Where to eat, what to visit, and what things are more interesting? Even though there is no general recipe that fits all needs and interests, there are a couple of things worth seeing.

Free Tour – Tip based tours

Dracula always recommends starting your day with a tour. It usually lasts 2 and a half hours, and the tour guide gives you an overview of the city’s history. In my opinion, the best thing to do is prepare some questions at the end of the tour, questions like:

  • what restaurants they recommend (local guides know a lot of places)
  • hidden gems
  • rush hours of the specific city if you are in.

MdAC – Tales of Communism MuseumGoogle Maps

If you are a stalker deep down in your heart, who likes to go through other people’s stuff and get the vibe from someone’s home, this is the place for you. You will explore the stories and houses of the generation that lived during Ceausescu’s regime. Also as Dracula loves stories you will immerse yourself in the period with snippets of people’s lives.

Who is Father Cold? Why would our grandparents keep empty deodorant sprays on the mantel in the living room? Why would most of us have a glass fish placed on a crochet tablecloth on top of the television set or a mini ballerina trinket in a display case around the house? What is an “alendelon”? Why are the elderly still bringing bribes to a doctor’s visit? Why is still good to know someone who knows someone?

The Black Church (Biserica Neagră)Google Maps

The most iconic building in the city, you can’t miss it! Also, most likely, it will be part of the free tour if you are on it

The Rope Street (Strada Sforii) – Google Maps

The legend has it that it is the most narrow street in Europe, or at least this is what the people of Brasov want you to believe. It was actually a corridor for the fire department of the time. This is a street also part of any Brasov tour you are going to do.

The Black and White Towers – Places with a view (Hidden Gem) – Google Maps

2 towers on the side of a hill, you get the views of the city and you walk by the forest and fortification of the city. It is a hidden gem that locals get to enjoy but few tourists know about.

  1. A nice overview. When we were in Brasov we went to the top of the mountain, we visited a skiresort nearby (but it was summer), and of course we saw a plaza, the black church, rope street and some other buildings.
