The capital of Romania is the place where ~15% of Romanians call home. It is the city that has everything you can ever wish for! Is it as diverse as New York? I would say not. But Bucharest is one of those imperfect hidden gems that you will recall in the future.
River
The Dambovita River has historically been the southern border of the city of Bucharest, while it expanded north through most of its history. It looks the way it does today, similar to a channel, because it was remade during communist times to stop flooding. The best time to go for a walk on the river banks is when traffic dies down.
Stories
Bucharest is the perfect place to listen to a story. Most areas have their own myths and legends, even though Bucharest has officially existed since 1459.
The Mita Biciclista house is iconic in Bucharest, in part due to the owner. Mita the Bike Lady, as her nickname implies, was the first lady to ride a bike in Bucharest in an era when it seemed problematic to ride a bike as a woman.
La belle epoque
Bucharest is called Le Petit Paris (Little Paris in French). It might not have everything that Paris has to offer, but it has the architecture and that cosmopolitan vibe.
Moody city
Sometimes it is happy, joyful, and crowded. During vacations, it feels free and walkable. Early morning on the weekends you feel lonely. A rush hour during the week feels unlivable. You see beauty, and then a building in a poor state.
